With the Electric Vehicle (EV) Time-of-Use (TOU) Rate, LUMA residential customers who own electric vehicles can place their vehicle or charger on a time-of-use rate while the rest of their house remains on a general service electric rate. The benefit to EV owners would belower electric costs for charging their cars during off-peak hours (9 AM to 5 PM).
The EV TOU rate defines three windows: Off-peak = 9 AM - 5 PM; On-peak = 5 PM - 11 PM; and Shoulder-peak = 11 PM - 9 AM.
The off-peak hours offer the lowest rates for EV charging. If you drive around 10,000 miles a year, you could save over $350 per year by shifting your charging to occur during the off-peak times.
The EV TOU program utilizes the WeaveGrid platform to communicate with your vehicle or charger and identify the energy consumed by charging your car and when that charging activity took place. Your monthly electric billing statement will then capture the adjustments for charging during off-peak hours.
For final determination related to any billing charges please always refer to your monthly LUMA energy bill.
